Necessary Components to Independence

To work independently you have to do many things and follow some simple rules that I made up.  Independence is very beneficial and can help you in the world outside of high school, in the work place.  Mastering independence takes some time and effort, but anyone can accomplish mastery in independence.

There are three steps to help you get to the mastery of being independent.  The first step is to stay focused.  It’s easier to finish projects and tasks quicker and more efficient when you stay focused on the assessment.  Getting distracted doesn’t help you at all and I know from experience.  When you get distracted you tend to procrastinate as well and that will get you farther away from getting mastery in being independent.

The second step is to use your imagination, or to think outside of the box to complete assignments.  Being able to grasp the big picture and being able to look at the creative side of things will help with becoming independent.  Creative problem solving also comes into play with independence as well as the other tenets of the Open Program.

The third and final step is to pace yourself and take your time while you complete tasks.  Rushing through assignments results in poor work.  Poor work doesn’t show that you’re independent, it shows that you are not responsible.  Be responsible and independent, and follow these steps to master independence.
