This
week we our theme was collaboration.
Collaboration is working together with other people to solve
problems. Collaboration is one of the
four tenets that we go by in the Open Program.
What we did to apply collaboration are our teachers, Srta. Rad and Mr. Glim
gave us a paper with thirteen characters listed and the descriptions of them. We had to read the descriptions and choose six
people to go to a Plant X, since our planet is being destroyed. First we individually choose six people, and
then we got into groups of three or four and made a new list of four. Then all fourteen of us, as a class, made a
final list of six characters to go to Plant X.
Collaboration
only works if everyone in the group participates. Our first time doing the assignment we didn’t
collaborate the way that we could have, because not everyone participated and
we didn’t have an organized way of discussing who we wanted to go to the Plant
X. There was lots of yelling and getting
frustrated. The next day, our teachers
showed us a video of us trying to make the final list and we got to reflect on
how we collaborated. Then we discussed how
we could have done a better job. A couple
days later we got to redo the project and this time we collaborated much
better. No one yelled at each
other. We used a voting system to add or
eliminate characters. All in all we successfully
used collaboration the way our teachers had taught us. I felt very accomplished when the assignment
was completed because I thought that our class had shown full mastery in
collaboration.
What
do you think of our collaboration assignment? Do you think that collaboration is
easy to master? Comment below!
